In the late 1990s, Janette and I traveled to southern Italy, specifically Calabria, to meet my relatives and research my family history. I was astonished by what we
discovered. My cousin first took me to the city hall, where we examined the official family archives. Later, he led me to the house where my father had been born. The current owners welcomed us inside and began sharing stories of our family’s past.
One moment stood out: they showed me a picture of a man on an enormous horse, dating back to the mid1800s. His nickname, they explained, was “The Cavallaro.” Intrigued, I listened as they recounted what little they knew of his legend. From that day forward, I began weaving these stories and my research into a larger narrative. Out of this, the concept of The Spirit of Cavallaro was born.
After 25 years of writing, on and off and recording songs to tell this story, I met
musicians in May 2025 who not only shared my visions but joined the Rhythmpriest family to help bring them to life—including the tale of The Spirit of Cavallaro.
“The Spirit of Cavallaro” unfolds in a forgotten village nestled deep in the mountains of southern Italy. A masked wanderer, known only as The Cavallaro, arrives astride the largest horse the villagers have ever seen. Guided by a calling to protect and
uplift the common folk, his spirit becomes bound to the land for centuries to come
He is destined always to answer the call—but the path demands sacrifice…
